Classic Rock Editorial Review
**** "Through the Open Window: The Bootleg Series Vol. 18 - 1956-1963" is celebrated by fans and critics alike as an outstanding addition to Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series. This comprehensive 8-CD set captures the essence of early 1960s folk singer-songwriter Dylan, featuring a treasure trove of live tracks, demos, outtakes, and previously unheard material, all thoughtfully compiled with exceptional artwork and a detailed booklet. Notably, the collection includes the complete 1963 Carnegie Hall performance spread across the final two discs, which serves as a highlight for many fans. Listeners commend the high-quality recordings, with many noting that while they've encountered most of the material before in various forms, the superior sound quality and the presence of unseen recordings make this collection a must-have. The compilation does face some criticism for certain omissions, notably the absence of specific early outtakes that fans hoped to see included. Additionally, it features a couple of tracks from the 1950s that are regarded as less interesting. Despite these drawbacks, the overall content far exceeds expectations, earning the release significant praise. Many enthusiasts express hope for future releases that will further explore this influential era of Dylan’s career, and the liner notes provide a brilliant framework for understanding his remarkable development as an artist. **
